Patrol Battle Procedures 08 May 2007 2IC - Patrol Battle Procedures 102-14-02

Patrol Battle Procedures 08 May 2007 Perform Pre-combat Checks Patrol battle procedures begin with soldiers inspecting themselves and their equipment. These inspections are called “pre-combat checks.” The objective of pre-combat inspections is to ensure each soldier and each piece of equipment is ready for the mission 102-14-02

Section 2IC checks the following Weapons and ammunition Uniforms and equipment Mission essential items Soldier’s understanding of the mission Communications equipment Rations and water Camouflage (personal and equipment) Vehicles (if responsible for a vehicle)

Perform Mission Rehearsals What is a rehearsal? A rehearsal is the act or process of practicing an action in preparation for the actual performance of that action.

Why are rehearsals important? Well-rehearsed plan = much higher chance of success than a poorly rehearsed or an unrehearsed plan (repetition allows soldiers to practice key mission tasks to learn his part of the mission) Time is key to conducting rehearsals, and time is one of the most precious resources available to commanders and units Emphasis on rehearsals should be at the lowest level possible (especially critical events)

Types of rehearsals: The seven types used range from requiring extensive preparation, time and resources to minimal requirements. Full (Rehearsal of Concept drill) Key Leader Terrain Model Sketch Map Map Radio Brief back

While the Section Commander is away receiving his orders from the Platoon Commander, the 2IC should be getting the mud model ready. The activities that the 2IC will go through will be dependent on the Warning Order that he has received. A good 2IC will second guess everything and think as of he is the section Commander – What would I want done? 08 May 2007
