Back to School Night 2018-2019 Señor Salinas Intro to Spanish - 6th grade Span. 1 - 7th & 8th Span. 1 Intensified 7th and 8th Span. 2 - 8th

Back ground 23 years teaching; 4th at Thomas Jefferson; previously at TC Willliams HS in Alexandria for 16 years and 3 in Wash. DC Proud Arlington resident. Proud parent of a TJ student (7th), and a 9th grader at Wakefield HS Born in El Salvador; arrived to the US at the age of 12; grew up in the DC area Coach of the Revolutionary Bulldogs (7th grade) in the Arlington Soccer Association.

Philosophy I believe in making learning fun and interactive I try to engage the student into an active participation in class. I feel it’s important to incorporate all aspects of the language (Speaking, writing, reading and listening)

APS World Language Scope and Sequence 6th grade Intro to Span. A/B schedule for full year. Focus on listening skills and speaking skills (very minimal writing and HW ) Span. I and 2- Students are required to take county-wide listening / reading comprehension/ speaking/writing assessments to fulfill the high school credit.

APS Scope and Sequence ACTFL levels Level I - ACTFL Novice Low - Mid Engage in simple conversations using learned words and phrases Write in short sentences using learned words Understand short simple spoken and written texts when supported by visuals Level 2 - ACTFL Novice High - Intermediate Low

APS Scope and Sequence- ACTFL levels Level II - ACTFL Novice High-Intermediate Low Participate in simple conversation using sentences and groups of sentence. Write simple messages and paragraphs using learned vocabulary and structures Read and understand authentic texts dealing with familiar topics. Understand the main ideas when listening to conversations dealing with familiar topics or themes.
