What is it? An architectural plan is a plan for architecture, and the documentation of written and graphic descriptions of the architectural elements of a building project including sketches, drawings and details.
Architectural plans are simply a 2D representation of the building that will be built. They are a way to translate the information needed to construct the building in a simple, logical manner so that contractors and owners know exactly what is getting built and how it will be built. Creating architectural plans are very easy once you understand the language the different lines represent and how to create them.
Floor Plan If you are remodeling an existing building, measure the perimeter of the existing building for the overall width and length and its general perimeter shape. If you are designing a new building, start with a schematic plan that works with the site features and fulfills your design criteria. Draw the floor plan of the building on the site plan showing the general perimeter shape and size of the building. Use the same architectural scale you drew the site plan to. Draw the floor plan with all the rooms and doors on a piece of paper to a scale using the architectural scale and triangles. Most residential floor plans are drawn at a quarter-inch or an eighth-inch scale. Draw the windows and doors in the floor plan, and locate the kitchen cabinets and bathroom fixtures and cabinets.
