The Sands Furniture & Lighting Descriptions   The inspiration for the design style and finishes of the furniture and lighting comes from Barbados itself. Relaxed and casual in style with a little refined detail and a bolt of strong colour. Many furniture pieces are designed in two complimentary wood tones with a weave detail drawer or cupboard front. The main floor, ceiling and wall finishes are very plain beige and whites to signify calm against the azure seas, planting and flora. This stylish and comfortable range of leisure hospitality furniture and lighting has been specially designed for The Sands Hotel and Apartments in Barbados by one on Europe’s top design companies. Every detail has been engineered to blend function with aesthetics and contemporary styling with casual Caribbean finishes and colours. The furniture has even been manufactured in Bali by a group well known for high end resort projects worldwide. The furniture is made from Sungkai solids and veneers, also known as “white teak”, which is a hardwood and ideally suited to interior furniture for warm and humid climates. This is then stained to the various colours designated by the design team before receiving layers of clear, matt polyurethane lacquer to protect the surfaces from knocks and bumps. The hardware is Hafele who are well known throughout the world for the quality and longevity of their products. The lighting is predominantly made in Turkey by tried and tested manufacturers who cater for the global 4-5 star hospitality market and again, who use quality materials and construction to ensure every item works as it should. The fixtures are made in steel, aluminium and wood with fabric shades and LED lighting for low energy consumption. Again, the lighting is manufactured as bespoke items designed especially for The Sands. Softgoods, draperies and upholsteries are literally sourced from around the world and all comply with international standards of fire retardancy, wear tests and general suitability for hotel and apartment use. Generally, the main colours are neutrals with strong accent colours to give the overall scheme a genuine Caribbean feel. Artwork will take the form of a selection of framed Barbados photos by a local photographer. Colours, subject matter and framing will be coordinated with the overall design scheme.
