Psalm 19

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.”

What bears witness that there is a God (Psalm 19:1)? Do a little research to find out a little more about the stars, including how many there are . . . then read Psalm 147:4 and Isaiah 40:26!

“Day to day pours forth speech,” “And night to night reveals knowledge.”

“There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard “There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world.”

“In them He has placed a tent for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.”

“Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.”

Is there any place on the earth or are there any people who have not seen or heard this witness in the heavens that there is a God (v. 3-4)? Read Romans 1:18-22. What has been made plain to mankind? Is there an excuse for denying God? What choice did mankind make that caused their thinking to become futile and their hearts to be darkened? Compare Rom. 1:22 with Psalm 14:1. How does God describe the person who denies His existence? In Rom. 1:25, what did mankind willingly exchange, and what was the result? In what way do you see people around you serving created things rather than the Creator?

Circle the words that describe God’s Word Underline the words that tell what God’s Word does “The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.”

Read Rom. 3:19-23 which also speaks of God’s law. Who is guilty and accountable to God? What does God’s law bring to our knowledge? How do those who believe receive the righteousness of God? How do we receive this faith according to Rom. 10:17? If you have received God’s righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, He has given many promises for your future. Insert your name in these verses to claim His promises: 1 John 3:2 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 Psalm 16:11

“They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;”

“Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.”

“Moreover, by them Thy servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.”

Compare Psalm 19:10 with Proverbs 8:10-11. Describe the value of God’s Word. What does our obedience to God’s Word bring (v. 11)? In John 14:21 what is our reward for obedience to God’s Word? Read Philippians 3:7-8. Describe how the Apostle Paul felt about knowing Jesus Christ.

“Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.”

I know what You say, God, but I’m going to do it anyway “Also keep Thy servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.” “Deliberate” I know what You say, God, but I’m going to do it anyway

Psalm 119:67,71 ___________________________ Compare Psalm 19:12 with Jer. 17:9-10; Rom. 7:15-25. What common sentiment do David, Jeremiah, and Paul express? What desire did David express in Psalm 19:12b-13? Is this your desire and prayer? Read the following verses and list what provision God has made to answer David’s prayer: Psalm 119:9 _______________________________ _______________________________ Psalm 119:11 ______________________________ ______________________________ Psalm 119:67,71 ___________________________ Psalm 119:105 _____________________________ James 1:22-25 ____________________________ Keep your way pure by living according to God’s Word Treasure God’s Word in your heart to keep from sin Let affliction teach you Let God’s Word guide you Be a doer of the Word, not just a hearer

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.”

Read Luke 6:45. How can we tell what is in a person’s heart? What does the Lord tell us to think about (Phil. 4:8; 2 Cor. 10:5)?

What should not come out of our mouths? Proverbs 6:16-17 Ephesians 4:29 Ephesians 5:4 Unwholesome words Colossians 4:6 Filthiness Lies What should not come out of our mouths? Philippians 2:14 James 3:9-10 Proverbs 10:19 Cursing People Too much talk Grumbling
