Psalm 19:7-8 The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

Psalm 19:9-10 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.

Psalm 19:11-12 By them Your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.

Psalm 19:13-14 Keep Your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression. May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

1. Beware of the life of the soul and dis-ordered attachment.
2. A common perception is that Christianity stands in the way of freedom.

“I came out of a Southern fundamentalist culture that frowned on co-ed swimming, wearing shorts, jewelry or makeup, dancing, bowling, and reading the Sunday newspaper. Alcohol was a sin of a different order, with the sulfurous stench of hellfire about it

“No short skirts for women, no longer hair for men, no polka dots on dresses for women because they might draw attention to suggestive body parts, no kissing, no holding hands, no rock music, no facial hair it all calls to mind the dog who thought his name was ‘No’ because that’s the only word he ever heard from his master.” - Phillip Yancey

2. A common perception is that Christianity stands in the way of freedom.
3. The Ten Commandments are not about what I am supposed to do but more about who I am supposed to be in a certain context.

3. The Ten Commandments are not about what I am supposed to do but more about who I am supposed to be in a certain context. 4. The freedom orientation is not from as much as it is for.

4. The freedom orientation is not from as much as it is for.
5. For my soul to be completely free, I must surrender.

Psalm 119:33-36 Teach me, Lord, the way of Your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Give me understanding, so that I may keep Your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of Your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward Your statutes and not toward selfish gain.

Psalm 119:37-40 Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your word. Fulfill Your promise to Your servant, so that You may be feared. Take away the disgrace I dread, for Your laws are good. How I long for Your precepts! In Your righteousness preserve my life.

Psalm 119:41-44 May Your unfailing love come to me, Lord, Your salvation, according to Your promise; then I can answer anyone who taunts me, for I trust in Your word. Never take Your word of truth from my mouth, for I have put my hope in Your laws. I will always obey Your law, for ever and ever.

Psalm 119:45-48 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out Your precepts. I will speak of Your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, for I delight in Your commands because I love them. I reach out for Your commands, which I love, that I may meditate on Your decrees.

“God’s law was given to us not to force us to obey a list of rules, but to free our souls to live full and blessed.”- John Ortberg

5. For my soul to be completely free, I must surrender.
6. The sickness that denies the soul its freedom responds poorly to conventional treatment. At the heart of my soul sickness is always relational disrepair.
