Environmental Test Planning Meeting 15 Feb 2005 Environmental Test Planning Meeting Final—including inputs from meeting 18 Feb 2005

Schedule 8:30 am Review proposed test sequence 9:15 am Walk through test sequence to flesh out details 9:30 am Post-Ship and Sine Vibe 10:15 am EMI/EMC 11:00 am Acoustic 11:45 am Lunch 1:00 pm Thermal-Vacuum 2:00 pm Work out development plan and timeline (make a plan for the plan, with dates) 3:00 pm Lay out plan-forward for next 6 weeks 3:30 pm Close

Environmental Test Planning Meeting Increased Systems involvement Martin Nordby and Rich Bielawski have taken on the role of coordinating the planning for environmental testing This supports I&T both with systems engineering technical input and with the additional warm bodies to aid them with long-term planning while they are focused on the immediate integration tasks at hand Test Directors identified Sine Vibe/(Modal Survey): John Ku EMI/EMC: Michael Lovellette Acoustic: John Ku Thermal-Vacuum: Jack Goodman (with Martin Nordby) High-Bay Tests: Paul Dizon Functional test coordination: Rich Baun Facilities: Bill Raynor Logistics: Martin Nordby Data Systems: Brian Grist

Agenda Review proposed test sequence Current 408 baseline Proposed sequence Rationale for new sequence Walk through test sequence to flesh out details This includes walking through the entire sequence of events, including moving, packing, storing, etc Identify as many as possible of the issues that need working out and develop a more complete list of actions needed for each test. See the following charts for information/issues/actions to be captured for each test Work out development timeline Walk through framework of timeline Add detail for working down issues and generating test plans Add Pathfinder to schedule Next Step Subcommittee meetings to work down actions and issues for individual tests “General Specifics” meeting at NRL in early-to-mid-March—work facility, logistics, and pathfinder issues, plus get reports from Test Directors on subcommittee actions

Current Baseline I&T Sequence (From LAT-MD-00408)

Comparison of Baseline with Proposed New Baseline Baseline Sequence from LAT-MD-00408 Receive, Unpack Modal Survey Install Radiators EMI/ EMC Remove Radiators Sine Vibe Install Radiators Acoustic C C C L L Survey T-Bal T-Cycle Survey Remove Radiators Weight, CG Ship to GD C M L C M L M Proposed New Baseline Sequence Receive, Unpack Sine Vibe Modal Survey Install Radiators EMI/EMC Acoustic C L L L L C L L Reference CPT Performed at SLAC T-Bal T-Cycle Remove Radiators Weight, CG Pack LAT Ship to GD C A L C M L C Aliveness Limited Performance Comprehensive Performance Muon Survey A M Final CPT Operations Saved Survey Survey C C M M Install Radiators Remove Radiators

Rationale for Revising Test Sequence Improved Radiator installation sequencing The new test sequence removes one full cycle of installing/removing the Radiators This is a higher-risk activity that is expected to be hard to do The revised sequence is expected to allow us going directly from acoustic to thermal-vacuum testing without removing the Radiators This ensures that the Rad-Grid thermal joint is tested exactly as it will fly This is the only way to verify in thermal-vac that the joint can sustain launch acoustic loading without detrimental impact on its thermal performance The revised sequence will require that the MGSE can accommodate the LAT with Radiators on during the transition from acoustic to thermal-vacuum testing Ensures that dynamics testing retires risks early Sine vibe: this will be done first, and will allow us to check LAT modes early. If modal survey is needed, it will allow the most time to develop contingency plans Acoustic: this is done after EMI/EMC, to ensure that any add-on EMI shielding is included in the acoustic test Preserves late thermal-vacuum testing Thermal-vacuum testing is still performed last, to provide a perceptive check that dynamics testing did not produce any thermal problems at our many bolt-up joints Next Step Work to the proposed sequence in planning tests and working actions Initiate CCB, update -408 document and revise LAT baseline test sequence

Environmental Test Punch List: Test Plan Objective Test Plan Completed test plan describing technical details of the test List of instrumentation needed to accomplish test goals Data products format, quantity, and quality Entrance/exit criteria for test (on-site or SLAC review) Test personnel (at SLAC and NRL) Test director, test conductor, discipline lead, facility manager, other people involved (MGSE, EGSE, test scripts, etc); get phone/cell numbers, e-mails; ultimately, this includes all needed test personnel Define a subcommittee to work issues for this test Test requirements Requirements flowing from the Test Plan and/or verification needs that impact any aspect of the test set-up Includes facility needs, MGSE constraints Description of activities Sequence of tasks with enough detail to identify all work and the order in which it must be completed This becomes input into LAT Environmental Test Sequence document

Environmental Test Punch List: Test Configuration Mechanical configuration Orientation in room and wrt gravity Personnel access needs around LAT MGSE requirements: support, cooling, stability MGSE design Electrical configuration Facility data acquisition equipment needed, interfaces, channel counts, read-outs and data transfer/storage needs LAT EGSE needed Physical location and footprint of LAT EGSE, communications needs/data flow, cooling needs, weight, power needs Cabling and cable lengths (including for pre-/post-test set-ups), cable penetrations available and needed Cabling and EGSE configurations before, during, and after test Result should be Electrical Configuration Diagram Procedures List of procedures needed to complete the entire operation Includes handling, contamination, and other “generic” procedures
