COURSE REQUEST PROCESS 2018-2019 SENIORS-Class of 2019 All course requests for the 2018-19 school year will be done electronically through Power School. You will be asked to give THREE (3) alternative courses when you meet with your counselor (in case of cancelled or overenrolled courses). ****Please come to your registration session with these 3 alternatives decided upon. *****

REVIEW REQUIREMENTS & AVAILABLE COURSES Graduation requirements are outlined on the handout you have received. Review the requirements, and how you are doing in completing them. Investigate available courses in the 2018-19 Course Catalog, which is available on the School Counseling page of the THS website.

When making your requests, keep in mind: Your future goals (college, career), and which courses will best help you attain these goals. Many courses have pre-requisites (either particular grades or previous classes). Be sure that you meet these before requesting a course. Many of the course pre-requisites are listed in PowerSchool and will be evident when you are selecting courses. Review the Add/Drop process.

Click on the CLASS REGISTRATION icon on the left of the screen. STEP ONE: Log-in to the Power School Portal using your portal username and password. If you are having any difficulty, all students are welcome to use the computers in the counseling office and library. Click on the CLASS REGISTRATION icon on the left of the screen.

STEP TWO: A screen that looks like the one below will appear. The screen is specific to your class next year. Civics, a required course for all seniors, has already been entered. The GREEN check mark on the right side of the screen indicates that the selection has been made.

You must make one selection in each row. STEP THREE: There will be a total of EIGHT rows in which you must make a selection. You must make one selection in each row. For the 7 rows where you have choices, click on the pencil as in the example below.

When finished, click “OKAY” and move on to the next area. Next click on the box under the GREEN CHECK MARK to select the course in that area that you are requesting. The “Prerequisite Notes” will give you information that will assist you in your choices. When finished, click “OKAY” and move on to the next area.

You are then finished, and can log-out. STEP FOUR: When you have picked one course in each area, the screen will notify you that you have made 8 requests. Click “SUBMIT”! You are then finished, and can log-out.

The CLASS REGISTRATION icon will be open from February 7th through February 14th. The Class Registration icon will be closed on February 14th. Beginning February 14th, any changes to your course requests must be made when you meet with your counselors in your individual planning session.

SENIOR OPTIONS Students who have earned 20 credits through the end of 5 semesters (all credits possible as of the end of first semester, 2017-18) will be allowed to sign-up for Senior Options (work experience, internship, community service, college credit) during your individual planning session. Appropriate permission forms and deadlines will be given at that time.

SENIOR OPTIONS CREDIT OPTIONS NO CREDIT OPTIONS College Course – MCC high school partnership – 0.5 THS credit Work Experience- requires paperwork from employer Community Service – 0.5 THS credit Late Arrival Internship -0.5 THS credit Early Dismissal All forms of SENIOR OPTION require: 24 credits in order to participate in Semester I Senior Option 27 credits in order to participate in Semester II Senior Option

UCONN ECE COURSES Students selecting UCONN ECE courses in Biology or Chemistry may choose to take the courses for either one or two semesters. You are not required to take both semesters. There is a fee associated with taking the UCONN ECE classes. For students who are not interested in earning UCONN credit, but who want the challenge of these courses, you may select to take the course at the Honors level. There are no fees associated with Honors level courses. Please talk with your counselor at your individual planning session about any questions you have about UCONN ECE classes.

ADD/DROP PROCESS THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT YOUR REQUESTS – INCLUDING ALTERNATIVES!!!!!! Remember that after the last day of school for this school year, you may NOT CHANGE your course requests, unless you meet one of the criteria noted in the Add/Drop Process. The Add/Drop Process is detailed on our webpage and on the handout given you today.

TO REVIEW: Use the 2018-19 Course Catalog available on the School Counseling website to review requirements and find out more about available courses. Make your requests in Power School between Feb. 7 and Feb. 14. CHOOSE YOUR REQUESTS & ALTERNATIVES CAREFULLY….review the Add/Drop policy. All requests will be reviewed in your individual planning conference with your counselor.
