Near Future Teaching “...futures research can best be understood as an attempt to explore the relationships between ‘possible, probable, and preferable’ futures: ‘what can or could be (the possible), what is likely to be (the probable), and what ought to be (the preferable)’. In order to begin to explore these questions, however, the first task of futures research must necessarily be to critique the assumption that there is an inevitable future to which we must simply adapt or resist.” Facer, K., & Sandford, R. (2010). The next 25 years?: future scenarios and future directions for education and technology. Journal of computer assisted learning, 26(1), 74-93.

Near Future Teaching The Near Future Teaching project is about working together to co-design the future of digital education at Edinburgh. We ran a series of workshops, talks, think-tanks, interviews and other activities both online and off: our aim was to draw together the views of students and staff to help design a future for our teaching based on the big ideas, values and visions of those who have a stake in it.

What values should shape how we change? What will the University of Edinburgh be in the coming decades? How does technology impact your study, teaching, or research?
