The student will identify cause-effect relationships. Objectives The student will identify cause-effect relationships. The student will use cause-effect to track plot events. The student will visualize plot events to identify cause-effect relationships.

A cause is an event that makes something else happen. If a dog eats your sandwich, (cause)

you won’t have anything for lunch. (effect) An effect is an event that happens because of an earlier action or experience. you won’t have anything for lunch. (effect)

Becky wears a white sweater. Miguel’s Neighbors Cause Becky wears a white sweater. Effect It’s hard to see Becky. She blends in with the sheep.

Mrs. Prouty seems very polite. Miguel’s Neighbors Cause Mrs. Prouty says, “Pardon me,” before she sneezes. Effect Mrs. Prouty seems very polite.

Miguel has mixed feelings about Tia Lola. Based on what you have read and on what you know from your own experience, infer how Miguel’s mixed feelings about Tia Lola may have caused him to behave. (pp. 74-75) Cause Miguel has mixed feelings about Tia Lola. Effect He is very quiet around her. He does not spend time with her. He does not play with her.

Miguel announces there is a surprise for his aunt in the back yard. What causes Tia Lola’s beauty mark to appear on the left side of her face at the end of the story?
