Summary vs. analysis A SUMMARY is an overview of a work. It is short and usually objective in tone. A summary typically tries to present the main ideas of a work, “presenting the substance” of the work but in a “condensed form.” The summary discusses the “WHAT” of a work.

Summary vs. analysis An ANALYSIS is the “detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or interpretation. An analysis typically wishes to discuss the “HOW” of a work.
