1 Stadium Company Network

The Stadium Company Project Is a sports facility management company that manages a stadium. Stadium Company needs to upgrade its existing computer network to provide state-of-the-art services. To do this, Stadium Company outlines a three-phase project.  First Phase – Stadium Company is contracting with Networking Company, a local Cisco business partner to, to prepare a network design requirements document.  Second Phase – Stadium management plans to issue a contract for the detail network design.  Third Phase – The installation and implementation of the network upgrade.

The Network designer plane to use NDLC to Design, Deploy, and Operate a Network  The six phases of the network lifecycle services: Prepare Phase Plan Phase Design Phase Implement Phase Operate Phase Optimize Phase

The Phases of Network Design - Prepare Phase  Define business goals - Establish organizational requirements  E.g Purpose of the Project Cost/Benefit Analysis Sourcing Options –  Outside vendors  Purchasing procedures Budgeting Project Management

The Phases of Network Design - Plan Phase  Perform site and operations assessment Evaluate the current network Operations Network management  Identify necessary modifications  Assessment areas – Environmental –  Electrical  Space  Air Conditioning  Cabling infrastructure Personnel

The Phases of Network Design - Plan Phase  Prepare the project plan Tasks Timelines Risks and constraints Responsibilities Resources required

Perform a Site Survey  Identify possible sources of signal interference  Identify physical infrastructure issues

The Phases of Network Design - Design Phase  Create plans that guide the installation  Complete the design of the network  Generate a final proposal Incorporates specifications to support – Availability Reliability Security Scalability Manageability

The Phases of Network Design - Design Phase  Planning the Installation - Configuring and testing connectivity Implementing the proposed system Demonstrating the functionality of the network Migrating network applications Validating network operation Training end users and support personnel

The Phases of Network Design - Implement Phase  Build the network according to design specifications  Testing the Network  Install the new solution  Perform system-level acceptance testing  Document results

The Phases of Network Design- Operate Phase  Monitor the network  Establish a baseline  Define policies and procedures Security incidents Configuration changes Equipment purchases

Respond to a Customer Request for Proposal  Include specifications that define the format and content of the expedited responses from the potential contractors.  Also contain schedules

The Response document  Cover letter Contact information Brief concise summary of proposed project.  Executive summary Problem or customer requirements. Recommended solution Why you are right company  Proposed solution  Proposed cost  Signature page  Appendices

Attend a Prebid Meeting  Pre-bid meeting or pre-submittal conference Review the project scope with customer. Identify everything Project formatting and timeline

Request for Proposal  Business goals  Project scope  Existing network and applications  Requirements for new network  Constraints  Schedule

The Role of the Network Designer  Analyze customer goals and constraints  Evaluate current network  Select technology and equipment to meet defined network requirements  Diagram placement and interconnection of devices  Design and supervise testing  Assist Account Manager with preparing the presentation

The Role of the Post-sales Field Engineer/Tech Support  Ensure network upgrade functions as designed  Provide install assistance and acceptance testing  Support and organize troubleshooting  Provide customer training and assistance  Resolve technical problems
