Title slide: Intro to the workshop: 1.) Introduce yourself and any other facilitators and thank venue organisers and participants 2.) One liner of what Social Innovation Camp is: Social Innovation Camp is a launchpad and accelerator for technology-based social ventures.  We bring together software developers and designers with people who understand a social problem and help build web and mobile-based solutions to social challenges. 3.) Intro to the evening: a.) from 17th-19th June we’re going to be…. b.) first we’re running a call for ideas c.) tonight/today, you’ll hear a bit about how this all works then we’re going to run a little practical exercise d.) we hope you’ll leave with a better understanding of how you can get involved and maybe even a beginning of an idea you’d like to enter 4.) Intro to how a Social Innovation Camp works….

So a little while ago we started thinking how the web has revolutionised the way we shop, listen to music, share photos, make friends and communicate...

But it has yet to truly disrupt the way we provide healthcare

Or educate people

Or how we live sustainably on a planet of limited resources…

Holding slide for next section of workshop: Introduce the idea that it’s easier to understand how this works practically. So we want to show them by running a quick exercise. See notes on how to run an itch workshop

FLiP uses social media tools for young unemployed people to find out what they’re good at and help them build a profile to get them to employment or training 7

So what have we built before… So what have we built before…? Over a thousand ideas have been submitted to the 10 global Social Innovaiton Camps. Here are a few that are running in the UK: MyPolice allows the public to have a constructive conversation with the police service about issues– whether they are good or bad 9

Weekend ends with pitching competition; we offer 3 months of support: 1.) Cash prize for the winner only: At Social Innovation Camp in 2009, we partnered with Firstport who provided a Level 1 Award to the winner. We are speaking with them about providing this again. 2.) Support from the SICamp team: (for both winner and runner up) It's the job of the SICamp team to help guide the SICamp projects through their first steps after the weekend. This will involve initially providing a space for the team from the weekend to meet up and decide who wants to continue working on the project. It will then involve deciding which of the support packages from prize sponsors will be most suitable at this point. The SICamp team will then be on hand as a project mentor where necessary, as well as catching up with the team in more detail six weeks and then finally three months after the SICamp weekend. 3.) Support from prize sponsors: (for both winner and runner up) Pitching and branding: a review of where the team are at the end of the weekend and help developing a quick and easy way to explain their idea to the world Software development: help deciding on the first thing they need to build, writing a technical specification and, depending on the scope of the build, helping with a first prototype Matched with a mentor: matched with someone from the SICamp community in Scotland to meet up with the team every six weeks for a three month period after the SICamp weekend to provide development support.
