7 Selecting Community Participants
Select community members who are interested in championing that change and consider them as participants for IDDS> Use the same criteria and questions as the others Talk with them – be clear about dates and needing to stay for whole summit Try to get actual users and movers Try to run a CCB workshop or a skill builder, if you haven’t yet Add to your participant lists now Two different models pictured above: IDDS Zero Waste gave the criteria and number of spots to their waste partners and had them select the participants. IDDS D’Kar organizers held a CCB and then walked around the community themselves with the criteria and oral questions to select the participants. (side note - great video about Jacob, IDDS D’Kar participant from D’Kar, here:

8 Prepare Organizers Make sure your organizers are prepared, know what they’re doing and where they are going, and feel ready and comfortable enough to lead  We’ll go over this a bit at Organizer Orientation, but good to start talking about it with your organizing team now if you haven’t already.

14 Make sure you give organizers and participants a map of the place including the important spots such as health clinic, important offices or locations, innovation centers, workshops, shops, etc. You can also make it a fun design activity if you want. Participants can draw on it things they notice. You can also do a community mapping activity if you want. Have community members start with a blank paper and draw out a map of their community individually and then share with each other. You’ll see what spots are most important to different people by what they remember to mark on there. It’s a good way of information gathering and fun activity  Community Mapping
