Scientific Notation Shorthand way of writing very large or very small numbers This way we can report an extreme number without fear of losing zeros! General expression: M x 10n M is a number 1 ≤ M < 10 n is an integer that represents how many times you moved the decimal point to get M

Rules! When we do math using scientific notation, there are rules Adding and subtracting: All numbers that are added or subtracted must have same exponent (n number) Multiplying: Multiply the M value, add the exponent Dividing: Divide the M value, subtract the exponents
