What are the lighting, visibility & weather conditions? F. Y. CONSIDERATION Are Arpt. signage, lighting & markings adequate or would they be a contributing factor for a RI? What are the lighting, visibility & weather conditions?

Are you familiar with Arpt. layout? F. Y. CONSIDERATION Are you familiar with Arpt. layout? Are there language problems that may contribute to a RI? What’s your experience in Ops. at high-density traffic Arpts?

What do you believe may cause a RI? F. Y. CONSIDERATION What do you believe may cause a RI? What do you think may help to prevent a RI?

• RIs. have increased worldwide. BACKGROUND • RIs. have increased worldwide. • Rwy. Safety: complex & urgent issue due to increase in Comm. & Gral. Aviation Ops.

FAA: #1 safety concern & top priority. RUNWAY INCURSIONS FAA: #1 safety concern & top priority. NTSB: “Most Wanted Transp. Safety Improvement” list. ICAO: “attention by States is req. to address the problem & its impact on Ops. Safety”.

Eurocontrol, FAA & JAA Task Force initiated Survey on Rwy. Safety. RUNWAY INCURSIONS Eurocontrol, FAA & JAA Task Force initiated Survey on Rwy. Safety. IATA Safety Strategy 2000+: “significant factor” (Regional Safety Priority)

RIPP AND REMEMBER ONLY YOU...

CAN PREVENT RUNWAY INCURSIONS Without runway safety training and evaluation, we can expect the incursions and accidents to increase in the years to come. The sooner we start training and evaluating our flight crews on surface operating procedures the sooner we will reverse the runway incursion trend. RIPP
