What is a party?? A group of persons who seek to control government through the winning of elections and holding of public office. Major Parties: Republican and Democrat

Parties Role A vital link between people and their government. Serve as “power brokers”----ease the extremists from both sides

What They Do Nominate Candidates Informing and Activating Supporters Bonding Agents—make sure candidate does job and is of good character. Executive and Legislative channels of communication Watchdogs
