2-1-2 and 3rd Declension Adjectives

Overview Adjectives do not have to agree with nouns in declension. However, they must agree with the nouns they modify in Gender, Number, and Case. There are two types of adjectives, 2-1-2 and 3rd declension adjectives (2 and 1 terminations).

2-1-2 Adjectives These adjectives can be identified by their nominative endings of us, a, and um. The masculine form of a 2-1-2 adjective declines like the second declension. The feminine form of the adjective declines like the first declension. And the neuter form declines like the 2nd Declension Neuter.

2-1-2 Examples Masculine Feminine Neuter Singular Nominative Magnus Magna Magnum Accusative Magnam Genitive Magni Magnae Dative Magno Ablative Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural Nominative Magni Magnae Magna Accusative Magnos Magnas Genitive Magnorum Magnarum Dative Magnis Ablative

3rd Declension Adjectives All 3rd Declension Adjectives decline like the 3rd declension. Some of these adjectives have the same ending for masculine and feminine, the neuter ending being different. Others have the same ending for masculine, feminine, and neuter. These are called One Termination Adjectives.

3rd Declension Adjectives: 3 terminations Masculine Feminine Neuter Singular Nominative Omnis Omne Accusative Omnem genitive Dative Omni Ablative Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural Nominative Omnes Omnia Accusative genitive Omnium Dative Omnibus Ablative
