Español 3 ¡Vamos a tener un año excelente! - Srta. Hansen (Spansen) 2017 – 2018 Srta. Keely Hansen khansen@nuview.k12.ca.us Prep Period: 1st Period @srtahansen www.srtahansensspanishclasses.weebly.com Español 3 Learning Targets Language Level Goal: Intermediate Middle - High INTERPRETIVE - I can understand the main idea in short, simple messages & texts on familiar topics when I listen & read in Spanish. INTERPERSONAL - I can ask & answer questions in a conversation about a number of familiar topics using simple sentences in Spanish. PRESENTATIONAL - I can present information on most familiar topics using a series of simple sentences when I speak & write. REAL WORLD WORK - I can use Spanish outside of the classroom, including talking about current world events. How will I be graded? Participation and Classwork (30%) Projects and Quizzes (40%) Homework (35%) … more about grading Quizzes – there will be a variety of short quizzes each unit, some will be pop quizzes and some will be open-note quizzes. There are NO re-takes for quizzes. Projects – Spanish 3 will exclusively use projects as assessments at the end of each unit. These are heavily weighted and will consist of reading, speaking, listening, and writing in Spanish. There will be group and individual projects, depending on the unit. Homework – expect 10-20 minutes of homework nightly. Homework goes in your spiral notebook. Homework is due the following day and collected at the end of each unit. Additionally, each student will be expected to research and present one current event to the class each unit for homework. Participation and classwork – includes speaking Spanish in the classroom whenever possible and completing warm-ups and any in-class activities. Extra credit – if students do especially well on homework or a project, they will be awarded extra credit on the Trabajo Excelente wall Late work – late projects will be dropped one letter grade. Late homework is not accepted. Students are expected to make up quizzes the following school day if they are absent. What will we do in Spanish class? – It is a privilege to be here! In Spanish 3 we will learn to talk about hypothetical and future situations through a focus on Spanish-speaking culture and the current events of Spanish-speaking countries. Each unit will be centered around a Spanish-speaking country and an essential theme. We will watch various movies and plays throughout the year as well as read poetry and short stories. The movies will be rated PG or PG-13. If you have any questions please see Srta. Hansen. What do I need to be successful for class? Something to write with (pen or pencil) A spiral notebook to be used only for Spanish class Use this spiral notebook to hold homework and notes A Spanish section in your 3-ring binder to hold graded assignments you wish to keep **Textbook and workbook can be left at home **It is beneficial to have internet access at home for this class. Please let Srta. Hansen know privately if this will be an issue. What will I do to get there? Arrive on time! Three tardies is equal to one absence. Arrive to class prepared to learn everyday with all necessary materials and with technology put away (my room is a no charging zone) If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the class website to see what you missed before speaking to Srta. Hansen. We will do our own work. This means we will not plagiarize or use online translators to translate entire assignments. If you are stuck, ask Srta. Hansen for help or use a Spanish dictionary (I recommend www.spanishdict.com) We will have a supportive and positive learning environment where everyone helps each other learn and grow. ¡Vamos a tener un año excelente! - Srta. Hansen (Spansen)
