Safety Tips for Truck and Bus Drivers. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. The most important part of a moving truck or bus is the driver! Get plenty of rest before getting behind the wheel. Eat well and stay fit. If you feel sick or are incapacitated in some way, DON’T drive. If you have been drinking, DON’T drive. Always Maintain your Vehicle. Inspect your vehicle before each trip. Check for safety defects, and get them repaired before risking your life and others on the highway. Check your tyres and pressures. Check for oil or water leaks. Continue Be aware of your "NO-ZONE“ (blind spot). Other drivers may not be aware of your truck's blind spots. Be vigilant in watching out for vehicles in the No-Zone. (The No- Zone represents the danger areas.). One-third of all accidents between large trucks and cars take place in the No-Zone. (the blind spot). Slow down in work zones on the roads. Watch out for highway construction. Stay alert. Take your time going through work zones and give yourself plenty of room. Be aware of hazardous and unstable road surfaces. Continue Always keep your distance. FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT. Always leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Large trucks require more stopping distances than other vehicles. Be aware of the road conditions that will influence your stopping distance. Be aware of your speed in relation to other vehicles in front of you. Be alert for unstable loads of the vehicles in front of you. FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT. Buckle up for safety and control. If you are in a crash, a seat belt can save your life and those around you. It will keep you in your seat and allow you to maintain control of your truck or bus. In most countries it is a legal requirement. It can prevent and reduce injuries in an accident. Continue Always drive defensively. Be responsible and safe. Avoid aggressive drivers! Keep your distance and maintain a safe speed. The only thing speed will increase is your chance for a crash. Aggressive drivers are most likely to do something rash and lose control of their vehicle, causing accidents. Never confront an aggressive driver whilst you are driving. Be responsible and safe. Be the professional on the roadway and at safety events! Help stranded motorists; Notify traffic safety agencies of accidents or unsafe conditions.
