1 SHARING THE ROAD WITH OTHERS
Chapter 8 SHARING THE ROAD WITH OTHERS

2 It is important to remember that he/she is not the only one using the roadways. From people to animals to other types of vehicles, it is a motorist’s responsibility to know how to safely share the road with others.

3 Drivers need to share the road with others, and to pedestrians
Drivers need to share the road with others, and to pedestrians. If you are in violation of this, you may be fined $54.

4 Why shouldn’t you pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk?
When a motorist blocks a crosswalk, it forces pedestrians to go around a vehicle, putting them in danger.

5 Pedestrians and joggers should always face oncoming traffic and use sidewalks when available.
Why?

6 Motorcycle Passing When being passed by a motorcycle, a driver should maintain speed and position.

7 TRUCKS A.) 25 % longer to stop
B.) Always stop or drive outside no zone or blind spot. (see driver in his mirror) C.) Give trucks extra room (turns)

8 What are no zones? Blind spots in which the motorist cannot see.
Important because the potential for collision increases when you are in these areas. Located in the rearview or side view mirrors or head on

9 Limitations of Trucks Visibility Stopping Distance Maneuverability

10 A motorist should increase the following distance behind a truck or large vehicle so its driver can spot a motorist’s vehicle in the rearview mirror.

11 Leave space when stopping at a light or sign…
Trucks are larger than other vehicles, their drivers may have slow, back up or swing wide to negotiate a turn. Give more space when making a wide turn

12 Trains It is important to always remember to remain alert to these crossings and never drive around lowered gates. When you see the yellow, circular RR sign, slow down there’s a railroad crossing ahead. Don’t get your vehicle trapped on the tracks. If your vehicle stalls on the track – get out of the vehicle and run in the direction of the train.
