Presentation transcript:

FASHION Fashion refers to styles of dress (but can also include cuisine, literature, art, architecture, and general comportment) that are popular in a culture at any given time. Such styles may change quickly, and "fashion" in the more colloquial sense refers to the latest version of these styles. Inherent in the term is the idea that the mode will change more quickly than the culture as a whole.

The 60s In the early sixties, pleated skirts set on a hip yoke basque were worn with short sleeved over blouses which were cut. Straight skirts had front and back inverted pleats called kick pleats and were ideal for doing the twist dance craze as they allowed the knee to move freely. Straight sweater dresses in lambswool or the synthetic acrylic variety called Orlon were worn belted with waists nipped in became fashionable.

70s By 1970 women chose who they wanted to be and if they felt like wearing a short mini skirt one day and a maxi dress, midi skirt or hot pants the next day - that's what they did. For Evening wear women often wore full length maxi dresses, evening trousers or glamorous halter neck catsuits. Some of the dresses oozed Motown glamour, others less so.

The fashion look that was the most powerful over the decade was the wide shoulder. Fashion history reveals that the 80s fashion look was a tailored look. It was hard to go anywhere without at least a jacket, but preferably a complete suit. This was influenced by several movements including media influence on 1980s fashion through the popularity of TV dramas like 'Dynasty and 'Dallas'. Costume dramas brought fashion into real everyday eighties life.

90s Adidas Windpants Light windpants. Made noises everytime you moved. Came in a bunch of colors with a white or black stripe down the side. Also had button down ones. Attitude Dude Shirts Shirts with line drawn faces that say one word or phrase beneath like. "I don't know Baby Doll Dresses Everyone had one. They were the dresses that were adorable and made you look like a baby. Back-Pack Purses Exactly what the name describes; a miniture back-pack used as a purse. Baggy Jeans Worn by both girls and boys, the baggier the better

The millenium There is a sense of confidence and optimism in the best of the collections that is infectious, resulting in a season that sparkles with the kind of color, embellishment, and upscale luxury we haven't seen for years. Some of our most inventive designers have found a new way to shock – by making beautiful, ladylike dresses. The logo has returned -- applied with heavy hand and tongue-in-cheek humor. So, too, has wear- everywhere, go-anywhere denim. All this, plus Dynasty-era gloss, opulent accessories, and a great group of up-and-coming designers who are making their way to us thanks to the recen0t rise of the boutique. If you shop wisely this season, you'll be looking rich for years -- no matter what happens to the stock market.

Today Black teamed with white is a very strong look. It is a statement contrast to all the brighter colors, printed fabrics and dip dye effects shown below. fashion trends these days come and go so fast, that we are no longer faced with just 3 or 4 ideas to create a really inspired personal fashion wardrobe. Even so, your body shape, height and your personal style, all affect how you select a new fashion look from fashion trends

There is never anything understated about Versace. The Italian brand, founded by late fashion designer Gianni Versace in 1978, is all about grandiose sexiness and decadent European-style glamour, not to mention an irreverent rock-star attitude. Think of Elizabeth Hurley in the mid-1990s in that tight black Versace gown held together rather precariouslyand revealinglywith nothing but safety pins down the sides. The design reigns were taken over by Gianni's sister, Donatella Versace, after her brother was murdered in Miami Beach in Donatella has maintained the label's aestheticelectric colors, sensuous fabrics, and clingy silhouettes for a bold, raw sexiness. The men's collectionwhich was launched firsthas a similar quality, with slim, sharp cuts and a reverence for the styles of the 1970s and 1980s.
