Ah, the good life!!!

Let’s analyze the patterns of migration to the west.

Santa Fe Trail

Santa Fe Trail A trail between Independence, Missouri and Santa Fe, Mexico that was used for 60 years to carry merchandise to and from the southwest

Santa Fe Trail At first, trade improved relations between Mexico and the United States. However, this trade encouraged American settlers to move west and to desire the lands held by Mexico.

Oregon Trail

Fun Facts $100 Drink of Water Buried Alive! Fun with Buffalo Dung

Oregon Trail Ran between Independence, Missouri and the northwest corner of Oregon

Oregon Trail It was a two thousand mile overland trail that took many immigrants, pioneers, explorers, missionaries, and fur traders to the northwest and other places across the country during the westward expansion.

Oregon Trail Once they arrived, they became part of the United States. This resulted in the Oregon Treaty.

Oregon Trail Even after the Mexican War and the Oregon Treaty added these lands to the United States, settlers continued to move along them to the west.

Mormon Trail Between 1847 and 1853, some 16,000 Mormons migrated west following the 1,300-mile route that became known as the Mormon Trail. It ran from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City in present-day Utah.

The Oregon Treaty Presidential candidate James K. Polk campaigned in 1844 on the promise of securing the Oregon Country for the United States even if it meant war. “54*40’ OR FIGHT” The United States and Britain had jointly controlled Oregon since 1818. Polk won, but made a treaty with Britain, setting the boundary between the United States and British Canada at the 49th parallel.
