How to Use CheckMyWork Guide

What is CheckMyWork? CheckMyWork is an originality-checking tool to support students in the development and submission of original work. CheckMyWork is accessed from the Links area of the Student Home Page in Connexus®. Use this tool to make sure you are not plagiarizing or inappropriately using another person’s work. This tool compares your work to the content found in billions of pages of Internet archives, student papers, websites, journals, and publications. After students submit their work on the CheckMyWork page, the results are displayed in a CheckMyWork originality report. A link to this report is provided to the student. The report shows whether the student's submitted work is original or whether it contains content found in another person's work. The link to the report can be sent to a teacher for review. © 2015 Connections Education LLC. All rights reserved.

Step 1: Log in and go to your Connexus Homepage and click on “Links”. Then you will click on the link that says “CheckMyWork”.

Step 2: You will be taken to a screen that looks like this. Once you get here, select the Section. (Example: English 12A or English 12B)

Step 3: Then type the title of your assignment. (Example: Unit 1 Portfolio OR Unit 1 Open Book Response) Unit 1 Open Book Response

Step 4: You will now upload your document. Select Choose File, then Browse, and navigate to the file you wish to be uploaded. The submitted file must be no larger than 70 MB and contain between 30 and 100,000 words. The following file formats are accepted: .txt, .rtf, .doc, .docx, .pdf, .ppt, .pptx, .html. Unit 1 Open Book Response

Step 5: Once everything has been completed click the SUBMIT button and wait patiently. Unit 1 Open Book Response

Step 6: Once it has been submitted, you will see a URL/link appear shortly after you submit your work. Note: Allow time for the Originality Report to be generated. Even though the URL appears, the report may not yet be available. If you click the link before the report is ready, you may receive a “Generating Report” message.

Step 7: Once you get to the report, you can see how similar it is to other sources – websites, student essays etc. Any part of your essay that is considered plagiarized will be highlighted in a different color, to match the source it is similar to. After viewing the Originality Report, you can edit your work and resubmit it by repeating the process. When you are satisfied with the results, copy and paste the Originality Report URL into the final version of your work before submitting it to your teacher.

Step 8: Portfolios: Once you are satisfied with your paper, paste the link to the bottom of your essay.

Step 8 cont’d.: Unit Open Book Assessments: Once you are satisfied with your answers and there is no plagiarism, copy the link and paste it into one of the short response answer boxes along with your answer and submit your assessment. Note: All of your short response answers should be submitted as one complete document into CheckMyWork. When you submit your link, you only need to paste the link into one of the answer boxes as shown here.

GOOD! Originality – 100% = % of response written in student’s own words Similarity 0% = % of the response plagiarized; not written in student’s own words

BAD! Originality – 27.39% = % of response written in student’s own words Similarity 72.61% = % of the response plagiarized; not written in student’s own words
