Parents’ Forum Positive Attitudes to Learning Tuesday 9th October

Assistant Headteacher – Teaching & Learning Miss Alice Raeburn Assistant Headteacher – Teaching & Learning

Feedback from Last Parents’ Forum You said… We needed a more student friendly way of reporting attendance We needed more competition to raise profile of attendance We should increase the visibility of attendance in front reception We did… We have removed the thermometers and are currently consulting on the new design with the student leadership team We now have a house cup for best and most improved attendance We are now going to be displaying attendance awards in main reception

Aims… To gain feedback on our current attitude to learning policy To share thoughts and ideas on how we can foster enthusiasm and further develop a love of learning To share ideas on how to ensure parents are able to support positive attitudes to learning Perhaps gain ideas on what information parents needs and how we can share this successfully.

What does a positive attitude to learning look like?

What is the role of a parent in promoting a positive attitude to learning?

Our external reviews say… Calm and pleasant learning atmosphere Pupils focus well in lessons because teachers insist on high standards – Ofsted Increasingly, pupils develop a desire to succeed – Ofsted Quality of T&L is a strong ‘good’ Behaviour and attitudes have ‘transformed’ over recent years Pupils behave very well in lessons and disruption to learning is rare - Ofsted

Our focus now… Encouraging more lively debate and discussion Improving students ‘thirst for learning’ Further developing resilience in learning Promoting a love of learning which encourages students to be more inquisitive ‘Stickability’ of learning and taking a risk to ensure learning is exciting and engaging
