Reading Writing Speaking and Listening Parent, Pupil and Staff Support Accelerated Reader Programme delivered through curriculum time September and ongoing Whole school marking for literacy policy to assess pupils’ written literacy skills September All staff to model the use of Standard English All Year Parental Lectures throughout the academic year 5th December – Whole School 24th April- Year 10 and 11 Literacy focus lecture Reading age data and relevant support materials shared with all staff 30th October Extra Core sessions as part of the curriculum at Key Stage 3 Whole School Debate 11th July Literacy displays around the school Staff recommended reading on posters around school September and updated throughout the year Literacy Ninja’s across the KS3 extra Core sessions Vocabulary displayed on the screens around school- linked to vocabulary books- English lessons on Mondays (vocabulary books) Literacy Lead within each Department around the school Every pupil to have a cross curricular vocabulary book Implementation of Feed Forward Marking Departmental targets and strategies supported by SLT 11th September- targets/ priorities set 12th February- Review 1 11th June- Reflection Whole school spelling Bee competition 6th February Incorporate opportunities to enhance oracy skills within schemes of work Accelerated Reader implemented into the LRC Drop Everything and Read during world book day w/ c 4th March and world book day is 7th March Whole School writing competitions All year Pupil Voice to support the development of the school 6th November with feedback given to staff on 20th November in TLC Staff Inset to ensure a consistent approach is understood and adhered to 3rd September Literacy activities in every classroom Student leadership groups throughout the school Guest speakers and external visitors to promote reading for pleasure Incorporate opportunities to enhance reading skills within schemes of work The ‘Right To Write’ strategy See timetable Activities during Citizenship Days to ensure all pupils are well rounded individuals and have opportunities to communicate effectively Literacy area for parents available on the website to support with Literacy at home Work for all Departments and key areas around school such as The Link and Seclusion Boys Independence group with external lead TBC Liaison with SLT to support staff development September- ongoing
