Year 12 transition task ART 2018

PRACTICAL TASK: The transition task for the summer will allow you to demonstrate your interests as an artist and give you time to reflect upon which artists inspire you and how you can translate their work yourself. You only need to complete 1 of the practical tasks below so we have given you 3 possible options. There are some visual references on the next page.   WHERE TO START: choose an image to study further by an artist that has inspires you. Make a note of the title and date of the piece of work and find a little out about this artist. Then study this piece of artwork yourself producing a practical piece of work but in a different style or technique.- look at the different examples on the Ppt to guide you but remember you have free choice of materials and techniques and you can determine the size ( no smaller than A3 please). Play to your strengths as an artist and use what you have learnt from GCSE. Produce a photographic response to your chosen artist image. You may use any photographic techniques but should refer to similar imagery (e.g stairs). Produce either a 2D or 3D response to your chosen artist image using different materials or techniques. Could you turn a painting into a sculpture?? Could you turn a painting into mixed media study? Could you turn a painting into a detailed drawing with similar imagery? Produce a response to your chosen artist exploring the techniques but changing the imagery? E.g Same/similar painting techniques but of a landscape instead of stairs?

You must choose your own image to respond to. Please remember the following slides are examples only based on a single artist image. You must choose your own image to respond to.

How could you interpret this painting as a photograph?? Valeriy Zhivulin How could you interpret this painting as a photograph??

A photomontage of different viewpoints across a set of stairs???

A similar photomontage based on stairs and the space around it???

How could you interpret this painting as a 3D sculpture?? Valeriy Zhivulin How could you interpret this painting as a 3D sculpture??

Exploring angles and both negative and positive shapes relating to staircases???

Valeriy Zhivulin How could you interpret this painting and use the same techniques applied to your own imagery??

Similar techniques using black and white acrylic paints in response to the painting of the ‘stairs’ but choosing your own imagery to paint.

All practical work should be completed for the first week in September. Any queries please email me at awright@st-albans.suffolk.sch.uk Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you in September 
