How to Take a Test Online The next few slides will explain these steps: Sign in Enter the online test passcode Answer the questions using the tools provided Check your answers Submit your test

Starting a Test

Login to the District From the district home page (http://www.philasd.org), click Login from the upper right part of the screen and enter username and password. Student passwords can be obtained from the Student Password Lookup Application, which school users can access through the Master Login page. More detail on passwords and the Student Password Lookup Application is provided in the document titled “StudentNet_Access_1819”, which is available in the “Benchmarks” section of the Office of Assessment website: https://www.philasd.org/curriculum/assessment.

Launch Schoolnet

Locate the Take a Test widget on the student homepage More detail on next slide

Enter the Online Passcode In Schoolnet, enter the online test passcode and click Go Passcodes are unique for each test. For the District Benchmarks, passcodes will be four-digit numbers. A document with passcodes will be posted on Schoolnet in the same place that the PDFs of the tests are posted. The file names for the PDFs will also include the passcodes. Teachers can access the passcode document and the PDFs of the Benchmarks by clicking on the “Benchmark PDFs…” link in at the bottom of the Curriculum Engine section on the Schoolnet homepage

Confirm the Correct Test Alert your teacher if the wrong test name appears. If everything is correct, click Start Your Test Benchmark 1 Grade 3 ELA

Confirm and Start It takes a few moments for the test to load. Once the Start Test Now button turns blue, click it to start.

Taking Your Test The following instructions apply to any test taken in TestNav, regardless of whether student uses Secure Tester or not.

Answering Questions Click a radio button next to an answer choice. Click the forward arrow to move to the next question. Click the back arrow to move to the previous question. Answers are saved automatically when the forward arrow is clicked.

Navigate Between Questions Click Review to jump to any question

Bookmark Items If you aren’t sure about your answer choice, Bookmark the item to review it later, if you have time A blue flag appears in the review menu so you can quickly jump to bookmarked items

Passages Use scroll bar to view long passages If a test has paired passages, use the tabs to switch between passages.

Test Aids Use the options in the menu to turn on and off any available test aids as needed Reverse contrast – Reverses the text and background colors to allow students with visual disabilities to view the screen more easily and to reduce eye strain Magnifier – Opens a box that can be dragged over text to enlarge it Show Line Reader Mask - Allows student to view a line or set of lines and block other text Enable/disable answer masking – Allows student to completely hide one or more answer choices

How to Highlight To highlight text you think might be important to review as you answer the questions, highlight the text with your cursor and then click the pink or blue square. (Use the icon with the red diagonal line to remove highlighting.)

Answer Eliminator Use the Answer Eliminator tool to cross out answer choices you think are incorrect Answer Eliminator

Notepad Use the notepad to make any notes that will help you to answer the test item. Don’t use this field for your answer.

Calculator Some items may have a calculator available. If you see the icon, click to open. You can use your cursor to drag it around the screen.

Pausing a Test Some tests have the option to pause if you have to leave your seat. If a student is in the process of taking a test and does not submit it for scoring (whether the test was paused or not), the test will be scored overnight, but students will still be able to continue testing at a later date during the testing window by entering the passcode on the homepage again.

Review and Submit After you answer the last item, a summary screen provides you the chance to review any unanswered or bookmarked items. Be sure to submit your test. If a student clicks Submit Final Answers prematurely, contact the Schoolnet help desk to have the test reset: 866-744-5243, philahelp@schoolnet.com
