THE SENIOR SEMINAR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

college and career preparation go together The Senior Seminar internship program helps high school seniors enhance their professional skills and clarify their sense of direction while helping community businesses and non-profit institutions. The program is based on the belief that college and career preparation go together. PURPOSE

1. Each senior will complete at least 60 hours of work as an intern. research project 2. The internship experience will help students complete a research project guided by an original question about a professional/career field. OUTCOMES

final presentation written work 3. Each senior will deliver a final presentation and submit written work that results a.documents the results of the research project and intended postsecondary future b.describes the students intended postsecondary future. OUTCOMES

The internship program runs from March 12 to May 2. During this time, you will be released from 6 th period and Flex if you have an approved internship (with the exception of Monday schedules). You and your mentor decide on your schedule together. PROGRAM DETAILS

The internship is unpaid; however, some mentors do decide to pay students. Some internships also turn into jobs afterwards. requires postsecondary education For an internship placement to be approved, you must be working in a field that requires – or would at least be enhanced by – a postsecondary education. Research what you want to do. Career Profiles Make contact with three people in the field. Conduct one interview. Develop a formal résumé. Write a professional cover letter. January 22 Submit your résumé and cover letter as part of your CAHS internship application on January 22. PROCESS How will you get an internship?

CAHS internship application you If you want to conduct an internship with a contact that you made, you may do so. Your application will confirm that you have the professional communication skills to finalize an internship placement. FINAL PLACEMENT How will you get an internship?

SERVICE LEARNING If you still need service learning credit, it is possible to earn it through your internship. The organization at which you conduct your internship must be a non- profit institution. See details on program website.

WHAT IF YOU DONT GET AN INTERNSHIP? Students without an internship are not released from 6 th period and Flex. alternative career research project Instead, they complete an alternative career research project. graduate Beware: while many students have completed this project for full credit, most students without internships are the same ones who dont graduate.
