The Nation Expands Jefferson wants to expand the US towards the Pacific PROBLEM- Land inhabited by Native Americans/Spanish Plan was to take over the Spanish owned Louisiana Territory Before that can happen Frances Military dictator Napoleon Bonaparte defeats Spain and takes over the territory

Louisiana Purchase James Monroe and Robert Livingston sent to talk with Napoleon about selling New Orleans 1803- Jefferson and US obtain vast territory from Mississippi River to Rocky Mountains This purchase almost doubles the size of the US Paid 15 million for 828,000 Square miles Great Purchase but contradicted Jefferson’s Principles
