Conjunctions

When to Use Each Conjunction: Conjunctions These conjunctions are very common words. They are very small, made up of three or fewer letters. When to Use Each Conjunction: Function Conjunction To communicate addition (additive) and, or , nor, etc To communicate contrast (adversative) but, yet, although,etc To communicate cause (causal) so, thus, hence, therefore, etc To communicate time sequence (temporal) then, next, after that, secondly, finally, etc

Examples of conjunctions in sentences: Conjunctions cont…. Examples of conjunctions in sentences: Ex. The students were given home and class assignments first. Then, they were given the mid-term exam. (then can initially begin the second clause.) Ex. The students were given home and class assignments first, (and) then , they were given the mid-term exam. (then can initially begin the second clause after (and))
