BOSTON VISA WORKSHOP FALL 2017 Ashley Berman External Relations Coordinator

What is a Visa? A visa is an authorization on a passport indicating the passport holder is allowed to enter, leave, or stay for a specified period of time in a country. You must secure your visa BEFORE entering Italy.

Batch Processing with Fairfield What is batch processing? Students traveling internationally before their program departure date are ineligible for visa processing through Fairfield University and will be responsible for obtaining a visa on their own.  Visa applications must be completed by April 22nd

Filling out the Visa Application No Correction fluid, correction tape, scribbles or cross-outs on forms. Do not write in the “official use only” section of the form. All answers must fit in the given space. (Write small and clear.) If you make a mistake you will have to re-do the form.

Boston Italian Visa Application Form (National D) 2. 1 recent passport size picture 3. Passport and photocopy of passport biographical page 4. Photocopy of student ID and driver’s license 5. Letter of acceptance in Italian – Provided by Fairfield 6. Original and copy of Current Enrollment Letter – Provided by Home University 7. Original and copy of Personal Bank Letter or Bank Statement 8. Original and copy of Scholarship/financial aid letter- when applicable 9. Medical Insurance Coverage - Will be issued by Fairfield 10. Visa Fee (Study Visa) – Money Order Only 11. Copy of round trip travel itinerary 12. Notarized Authorization of Passport Submission ( batch process only) 13. Notarized Return of Passport Declaration (batch process only) 14. Return Envelope – Pre-paid, Self-Addressed (batch process only)

Passport Your visa will be affixed to the inside of your passport; thus, we will need the original to submit to the consulate. It must be valid beyond six months after the program end date. It must have at least 2 unstamped pages available

Visa Fee Visa Fee accepted in the form of Money Order only. Addressed to “Consulate General of Italy in Boston”. Check the Consulate website before obtaining your money order as the visa fee will change in April. The correct visa fee will be listed under “Study Visa (more than 90 days)”

Proof of Adequate Financial Means Proof of financial means must be presented in one of the following manners: if student is financially responsible: submit a letter or bank statement from your bank , on the bank’s letterhead, signed by a bank official and with recent date, indicating account balance (at least $1,000 for each month of stay in Italy is required). if parents are financially responsible: submit their Notarized Affidavit of Support stating their financial commitment for expenses incurred in Italy. That I, the affiant, will pay for the applicant’s expenses as outlined above. Copy of Travel Itinerary You must buy your plane tickets prior to you visa appointment date. Your ticket must be round trip and indicate your arrival and departure from Italy. Your ticket must show you are entering and exiting Italy. You do not need to enter or exit specifically from Florence.

Return Envelopes It is your responsibility to correctly purchase and address return address envelopes Fairfield University is not at fault if your package is delayed or lost during transit All packages must have a tracking number and sent only via UPS, USPS or FedEx It is recommended to use a priority mail envelope Sent from Address: Fairfield University, Office of Study Abroad Sent to Address: Yourself

Housing on University Letters On the Fairfield University letters of acceptance, you will see an address. That is NOT your actual address. This is a placeholder for visa a purposes.

Permit of Stay Also referred to as Permesso di Soggiorno is a permit issued by the local police authorities. Students are required to present themselves to the local police within the first few days of entering the country. Fairfield University staff will assist you in this process. For the Permit of Stay, you will need to bring with you the following: 4 Passport sized photos Notice of Instruction and original acceptance letter with consular stamp (this will be returned to you along with your passport)

The consulate reserves the right to deny visa applications or request additional documentation
