1 Visa Application Check Tool
This is a check list for visa applications. Please check each item carefully before coming to the Consulate. If you have any questions, you may call us on weekdays on Telephone Visa Inquiry Hours: 10am pm 3pm pm (NO visa inquiries can be made by .) “Click” or press “Enter” to begin

2 Who can apply? Who doesn’t need?
Visitors *The visitors need to apply for a Japanese visa in their home countries. * Australian Temporary Visitor Visa Holders * Holders of an Australian visitor visa who have changed their visa status from a Student Visa * Residents in the other states in Australia except Northern Territory Long Term Residents in NSW and NT * Permanent Resident Visa Holders * Student Visa Holders * 457 Business Visa Holders * 485 Graduate Visa Holders ○ Are you actually required to apply for a Japanese visa? Please check “Exemption of Visa (Short-Term Stay)”.

3 Passport ○ Your passport is valid until the trip to Japan and
return is completed to Australia? ○ Is your passport signed? ○ Not damaged (torn out pages, water damaged,               or unreadable ID page, etc. )? * If it is damaged, please renew your passport beforehand. ○ Are there at least 2 spread blank visa pages?   * If there are no 2 spread blank pages, please renew your passport beforehand.

4 Australian Visa ○ Valid until the trip to Japan and return is completed to Australia? ○ Printed VEVO information? ○ The valid visa is linked to your current passport? If it is linked to the old passport, please bring it as well. ○ If you are a Permanent Resident visa holder, is the Re-entry permit still valid until the trip to Japan and return is completed to Australia? *If not, please renew it beforehand. ○ If you hold a“Bridging visa A”, you need to change it to “Bridging visa B” beforehand. ○ If you hold a tourist/visitor visa, we CANNOT accept your application. Please apply for a Japanese visa in your home country.

5 Application Form ○ Printed a visa application form (2 pages)?
○ Checked the "Visa Application Writing Sample"? ○ All the lines are filled without any left blank? ○ If no information is applicable for the question, please put N/A or No. (See sample writing) ○ Your signature is the same as on your passport?

6 Passport Photo ○ Your photo is the right size ( 4.5cm x 3.5cm )?
○ The photo is taken within the last 6 months?

7 Flight Booking Confirmation
○ Printed all the destination flights from Sydney to Japan    and Japan to Sydney? *If you apply for a double entry visa, please provide all the flights    including the 2nd entry flight. ○ Showing your full name as a passenger? ○ Full flight details from an accredited travel agent or airline? ○ If you will not come back to Sydney,   please provide a typed explanation letter. ○ We do NOT require any payment of the flights as    we cannot guarantee if your visa is granted. ○ If you wish to purchase any flight tickets,   do so at your own responsibility.

8 Bank Account Details ○ Have/printed your Bank statement and/or transaction list with sufficient funds for the trip to Japan, showing the most recent 3 months of transactions up to your application date? *i.e. If you lodge the application on 1st December, please provide us with the transaction records from 1st September to 1st December. ○ If your latest bank statement is not up-to-date to see the current balance, you may provide us with a printed online transaction records to cover the most recent 3 months on top of the statement. As long as the records show the same account number as that in the statement and show the current balance, we can accept them. ○ Bank account details show your full name and current residential address?

9 Bank Account Details ○ If the applicant does not have enough funds but
a family member/a partner is willing to support him/her financially, both the applicant's bank account details as well as the supporter's bank account can be provided. In that case, please provide us with the following documents on top of the bank account details. 1. A typed letter with a signature from the supporter outlining   the financial support 2. An official document showing the relationship between   the applicant and the supporter 3. Passport photocopy(Photo & signature page) of the supporter

10 Bank Account Details ○ If the applicant is a minor and does not have any bank accounts, the parent’s bank account can be provided. In that case, please provide us with the following documents on top of the bank account details. 1. A typed letter with a signature from the parent outlining the financial support 2. An official document showing the relationship between the child and parent such as a birth certificate 3. Passport photocopy(Photo & signature page) of the parent

11 Student ID (if applicable)
○ Student ID/card is valid? ○ Please bring the original ID/card and the photo copy(both sides). ○ If you do not have a student ID/card, you may provide us with a confirmation letter from your school about your enrolment. COE (Certificate of Enrollment) is not acceptable.

12 Visa for the next country after Japan (if applicable)
○ Got a visa for the next country that you will visit after Japan? *If you need a visa to visit a country after Japan, please obtain the visa first before applying for a Japanese visa. ○ Have a document to prove that you have obtained a visa for the next country?

13 Before coming to the Consulate
○ Double-checked this “Visa Application Check List”? ○ Please check our website for any important notices such as “IMPORTANT NOTICE” and “What’s New?” ○ Printed all the required documents? *If you do not have a hard copy of all the required documents, we cannot accept your visa application. ○ Checked the “Application Period” and right time to apply? *As we expect a large number of visa applicants during the first week of the visa application period, please give yourself plenty of time to wait in line and submit your visa application. Alternatively, you may wish to apply after the second week as there are generally fewer visa applicants and shorter waiting periods. *The application periods are not applicable to Working Holiday visa applicants and visa applicants with a “Certificate of Eligibility”.

14 Before sending documents to the Consulate (APPLICATION BY POST ONLY)
○ Are you a resident in distant locations – North of Newcastle, West of Lithgow, South of Nowra in NSW (approximately 2 hour drive or 200km from Sydney CBD), and anywhere in the Northern Territory? Only the applicants living in these areas may apply by post. ○ Checked “How to Apply By Post”? ○ Read “THE VISA APPLICATION PROCESS BY POST”? ○ Printed and signed “PLEDGE-DECLARATION OF INTENT FOR THE VISA APPLICATION BY POST”? ○ Checked the “Application Period” and right time to apply? ○ Have a self-addressed return envelop (must be Express or Registered mail)?

15 End of the Check List Visa Application Hours
(Mon-Fri except public holidays ) 9:30am :00pm 2:00pm - 4:00pm *If there are large numbers of visa applicants, the visa counter may be closed earlier for security reasons.
