Creating Your Portfolio

I.  Session Objectives: After completing this session, you will be able to: define portfolio explain the purpose and value of a portfolio identify the content of the portfolio

II. What is a portfolio? A. The portfolio is a collection of evidence related to education and experience that allows a teacher and the prospective employer to evaluate the ability of the student.

III. What is the purpose of the portfolio? A. The carefully arranged portfolio is a showcase of employability skills that helps students prepare for entry level marketing/business positions

IV. What is in the portfolio? A. Portfolio Presentation A table of contents and a letter of introduction present you and your portfolio to an outside party

IV. What is in the portfolio? B. Career Development Package This section can include an application for employment, and/or college, a letter of recommendation, a cover letter, personal references, and a resume.

IV. What is in the portfolio? C. Work Samples This section will include samples of your work that demonstrate mastery of important career-technical skills and knowledge, as well as a written summary for each sample.

IV. What is in the portfolio? The summary will include a written assessment of the planning, execution, and evaluation of the activity. This analysis will demonstrate your ability to interpret information, think critically, apply knowledge, and explain your ideas clearly.

Education • Reports describing service or leadership roles at school • List of career goals • Results of standardized test scores or state proficiency exams • Report card • Diploma, or certificates earned • Attendance record • ROP Program Certificate
