CONTENTS: - INTRODUCTION - 3D – GIS TECHNIQUE - COMBINING ARCGIS AND GOOGLE SKETCHUP 8.0 TO ESTABLISH 3D-GIS MAP IN SMALL AREA - CONCLUSION

INTRODUCTION 3D - GIS can be understood simply as a 3D model combined with the management of its attribute by GIS softwares to meet user requirements. 3D - GIS expands GIS capabilities to build, display and analysis of three-dimensional data, perform and display navigation perspective, provides analysis functions to help calculate the slope, terrain, shadow use for assessment of high-elevation areas, perform analysis visualization, calculate earthwork volumes, interpolate surface from a height value and create vertical alignment for research objects.

3D GIS TECHNIQUE 1.1. THE IMPORTANT OF 3D- GIS There are many advantages with an interactive 3D terrain model. It can offer users the ability to select active observer status in the map, enable to realize and more understand easier about spatial and attribute data concerning topographic objects. 3D terrain with the content categories, the various details for the purposes of tourism, planning and forecasting future commodity has become common in many developing countries.

1.2. Ability to develop 3D-GIS in future of Vietnam Currently, in Vietnam, GIS are widely used in many fields of science related to spatial data, from the natural sciences to the social sciences. These include the application of GIS in electric power, information technology, water supply, transportation, environment... Besides the above advantages, there are various difficulties for Vietnam when approaching and applying 3D - GIS in urban infrastructure management, as there is not a homogeneous system, limitations of funding and human resources to operate the system 3D - GIS.

Save models in COLLADA: After finishing, the models will be saved as skethcup format (.skp) to be back and edit if nessessary. However, to put the models back to ArcScene, COLLADA format are used once more time. From Menu File, choose Export to COLLADA

CONCLUSION 3D-GIS nowadays play an important role in human life. It is very useful to many aspect of life. This research gives an overview of the development of 3D - GIS in the world, in Vietnam and viability of 3D - GIS in the future of Vietnam. It research the ability of combining ArcGIS and Google Sketchup software to establish 3D model quickly and accurate spatial as well as attribute information. The result is a 3D – GIS of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology with a high accuracy and easy to query attribute information. Furthermore, it is very useful in planning, managing and spatial analysis of the university. The completed model can be exported to Google Earth for advertising universitys scene.
