Application to our lives today Lesson 4 1 Corinthians Application to our lives today Lesson 4

1 Corinthians 1:26-31 Paul then transitions to a broader point in this last section of chapter 1 What is that broader point? How does it affect our Christian walk?

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Paul arrived in Corinth after a rather tepid reception to his sermon on the Areopagus (Acts 17:22-34) It’s possible he thought that he tried to “dress up” the gospel a little too much for the wise philosophers of Athens So, he decided that he would know nothing but “Jesus Christ, and Him crucified”

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Why might Paul have been in much fear and trembling? What differences are there in a faith based on the wisdom of men versus the power of God? So what can we take from Paul’s fragile state here in chapter 2 for our own walk?

1 Corinthians 2:6-16 Paul continues his discussion about earthly vs. Godly wisdom Also mentions man’s vs. God’s spirit a lot too We don’t speak with earthly (man’s) wisdom in preaching the gospel, or rulers of the world would have followed it

1 Corinthians 2:6-16 A brief look at the “mystery” in the New Testament: Mark 4:10-11 Romans 11:25-26; 16:25-26 1 Corinthians 2:7 (here); 15:51 Ephesians 1:7-12; 3:1-12; 5:25-33; 6:18-20 Colossians 1:24-2:5 2 Thessalonians 2:7 1 Timothy 3:8-16

1 Corinthians 2:6-16 There’s basically three ways in which “mystery” is typically used The gospel itself That all man (Jew & Gentile) are saved by the gospel That God would send His Son to die on the cross for our sins All related to the gospel Now, knowing that, what is Paul’s point here in this passage? And how can we make application to our walk?
