HWB – Third/fourth level S1-S2 Lesson 2 BBC Children in Need 2015

BBC Children in Need: Key Facts BBC Children in Need’s vision is that every child in the UK has a safe, happy and secure childhood and the chance to reach their potential. Since 1980, BBC Children in Need has raised over £770 million to help disadvantaged children across the UK. Remind students of the key facts they learnt about BBC Children in Need in the last lesson Last year, BBC Children in Need funded 2,600 projects that support children and young people, including some in our area.

Where will your fundraising go? £1 helps an 11-year-old girl who has been bullied to make friends and grow in self-esteem at her local youth club £8.50 means a teenage boy with autism can spend an hour at a life skills course where he can learn to travel independently £10 pays for a music therapy session at a hospice where a six-year-old girl with a brain tumour can have some joy in the last weeks of her life £20 pays for a therapy session for a young boy with alcoholic parents, helping him understand their illness and manage his anxieties £40 helps support a 17-year-old girl who was dependent on drugs to turn her life around and find a job Play the video to the students - https://youtu.be/9SGg-qw-qh0 Where will your fundraising go? Watch video here: https://youtu.be/9SGg-qw-qh0

Fundraising ideas from our friends Fundraising Ideas from our friends for some celebrity suggestions… Can you think of ideas that would be even better for our class? Play the video - https://youtu.be/ARZB-8rlCJA Fundraising Ideas from our friends https://youtu.be/ARZB-8rlCJA

How can we raise money? A karaoke session? A smoothie stall A sponsored walk? Silence? Dance? A football match? A nail bar? Show this slide as a prompt while students complete the ‘Fundraising ideas’ sheet. Encourage them to be imaginative and adventurous, but practical and realistic! A talent show? A tombola (how about a chocolate one?) Sponge the teacher? Car washing? A sponsored sacrifice? (No mobile phone, sweets, games console…) A quiz A cake sale

Fundraising ideas: Questions to ask Where and when will it take place? Will it cost a lot of money to set up? Will we be able to get hold of everything we need? Will it be popular? Will everyone be able to take part? How can we use it to raise money? How much are we likely to raise? Display these questions as prompts while students present their fundraising ideas to the rest of the class Encourage students to use the prompts to help them filter the ideas and work out which will raise the most money for BBC Children in Need

Planning our fundraising activity Timings When will our activity take place? How many planning meetings do we need? Finance What do we need to buy? How much will it cost? How will we raise money? What will we charge? Planning your activity Display these prompts as the students complete the ‘Planning our fundraising activity’ sheet There’s no need to limit your fundraising to one idea. Can different groups do different activities to help raise more than ever before? Promotion Who is our target audience? How will we promote the event? Health and safety What are the risks involved? Are there health and safety considerations? Do we need a wet weather plan? Resources Where will our activity take place? What resources do we need?

Congratulations on becoming… For
