The government closed failing banks & opened the solvent/ healthy ones. Home Owners Loan Corp. Gave loans so people(ppl) could pay their mortgages. Stopped ppl from going homeless & banks from going under.

They lived in camps and got free food. Their pay was sent back to parents.

RELIEF

RELIEF Banks Closed Businesses Closed People Lost Jobs Broke and Starving

Recovery = Economic Stimulus Economics Stimulus Reasoning Priming the Pump Stock Market Crash created the need for economic stimulus. FDR believed pouring money into the economy could get it working again.

Recovery = Economic Stimulus Economics Stimulus Legislation National Recovery Act (NRA) A group of businesses organized by the gov’t & given the power to set regulations. Members of the NRA displayed a blue eagle.

Recovery = Economic Stimulus Economics Stimulus Legislation Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) Taxed food processors & gave the $$ to farmers for not growing food. This decreased the food supply so price would go up.

Reform Things done to prevent another Great Depression Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Permanent Government Agency insured bank deposits so people would not lose money if bank failed. Today it insures deposits up to $250,000.

Reform Things done to prevent another Great Depression Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Built 21 dams along the Tennessee River. Dams controlled floods & made cheap hydroelectric power lowering electrical prices. Ppl feared “TVA” as a form of socialism. **Most Successful of all New Deal Programs**

Reform Measures Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Was set up to watch the stock market, prevent fraud, regulate sale of stocks, & guard against stock market crash.

Reform Measures Social Security Administration (SSA) Provides unemployment insurance, old age pensions, & insurance if ppl die early. Workers & employers pay contributions to fund benefits.
