Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Built hydroelectric plants and dams, providing power and encouraging industry in the south, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Employed young, single men for natural resource conservation; planting trees, fighting forest fires, and building resevoirs Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) Government purchased surplus crops and encouraged farmers to reduce crop sizes to balance farm prices. Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA) Granted federal money to individual states to disperse as needed for the unemployment in their state. National Industrial Relief Act (NIRA) Controlled industrial production and prices with industry-created codes of fair competition. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Government insured bank deposits up to $2,500 Public Works Administration (PWA) Provided employment through private companies in construction of public works and facilities – airports, schools, libraries, parks, and roads. Civil Works Administration (CWA) Provided employment through the federal government in construction of public works and facilities – airports, schools, libraries, parks, and roads. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) Regulated the stock market for unfair practices and speculation. Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Stimulated home construction and encouraged low interest rate loans for homebuyers. Social Security Administration (SSA) Created an unemployment system, disability insurance, old-age pension, and child welfare benefits. Works Progress Administration (WPA) Created jobs for artists, musicians, actors, architects, etc. to create works that beautified America and supported American ideals.
