Strategic focus areas/themes: The Digital Agenda Alliance with the users Culture and Economic Growth International Cooperation Efficiency

Danish Agency for Culture - Libraries Providing services for ministers and departments in the field of libraries, including the field of public information Exercising authority with respect to the field of libraries Responsibility for the national bibliographic registration Responsibility of Bibliotek.dk (Library.dk) – database with items of Danish public and research libraries Administering grants and secretariat services in the field of libraries Strategic development in collaboration with the library sector

Danish Agency for Culture - Libraries What’s on in Denmark according to libraries in 2014? 1. Does the functions of the library change? – from cultural contact point to delivery of well-fare service Citizens service – come to the library and have your new passport or driver’s license About 60% of the libraries have some kind of tasks within citizens service

Danish Public Libraries 2. The library as a solitaire institution? Almost every library in Denmark work together or have partnerships with other kinds of institutions: public schools, mass media, cinemas, theatres etc. New ways of organizing the cultural institutions e.g. a pilot in developing a new kind of institution – a mixture of a museum and a public library – can we develop together?

Public Libraries 4. Develop reading capacity and knowledge for the individual Make the citizen able to take part of the democracy See the library as a centre of informal learning

Discussing IFLAs Mega Trends: 1. New Technologies will both expand and limit who has access to information. 2. Online Education will democratise and disrupt global learning. 3. The boundaries of privacy and data protection will be redefined. 4. Hyper-connected societies will listen to and empower new voices and groups. 5. The global information environment will be transformed by new technologies

Making a Reading Campaign

Competition within the municipalites In March 2014 12 Danish municipalities (of 98) were awarded the title “reading municipalities” by an independent jury, based on their creative and innovative reading activities. In May 2015 the jury will choose the winner of the competition and the most effective methods and best practices will be shared and implemented on a larger scale.

The purpose of the Danish Digital Library (DDL) To make the collective digital public library services stronger, more visible and more efficient To strengthen the Danish public libraries’ potential for sharing and communicating electronic medias, such as e-books and other net based materials

The Danish Digital Library Founded in November 2012  A binding collaboration between Local Government Denmark (LGDK) and The Ministry of Culture 97 of Denmark's 98 municipalities are engaged in the collaboration – covering 90 % of the Danish population Works primarily with the areas: digital communication, digital infrastructure and purchasing
