Background Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808, Christian county, Kentucky. Died December 6, 1889. Attended Transylvania University in Kentucky until 1824. Appointed to West Point Military Academy at age of sixteen by President Monroe. Graduated June of 1828 Fought in the Mexican War at Monterrey and Buena Vista

Role in Civil War Davis was the President was confederate states and Commander in Chief of the Confederate Army. Appointed Robert E Lee as commander of the Army of Virginia.

Impact on war Jefferson was an excellent military leader who’s excellent judgment of generals led to many victories for the South.  Davis was captured at Irwinville, Georgia on May 10, 1865. There is a monument in Georgia at the spot he was captured.
