NASA's Earth Science Gateway ESIP Meeting at College Park, Nov A follow up to Myra’s presentation on How ESG works to serve the GIO purpose and objective Link is at http://esg.gsfc.nasa.gov/weswww/intro Dr. Phil Yang, GeoScience Information Scientist NASA/GMU Applied Sciences Program Geosciences Interoperability Office

NASA's ESG Introduction to Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) ESG Architecture ESG Functionality Publish Search/Discover Personalized Accounts Collaborations Go over purpose and objective given by Myra Explain the SOA mechanism SOA-based ESG architecture Experience ESG through its functionalities, and Some future plans

Introduction to SOA Services are registered in catalog; SOA is an architecture to build information systems Service is the key of SOA, service can be built from functional components of an information system. SOA provides a mechanism to support the rapid prototyping of applications by leveraging the flexibility of services Services are registered in catalog; Catalogs broker registered Services; Clients integrate application logic to access Services.

ESG Architecture

ESG Functionality: Publishing ESG supports OGC Catalog transactions (v2.0) ESG supports FGDC and ISO metadata standards ebRIM schema facilitates adding resource types EST supports the publishing of online resources, such as web services and document, into the catalog The resources will be registered in the catalog by recording relevant information in ISO or FGDC metadata format ESG could access online resources and extract as much information as it can Once a resources is published or harvested by ESG, an ESG search/discovery will be able to find the resource http://www2.demis.nl/mapserver/request.asp http://nmcatalog.usgs.gov/catalogwms/base http://wms.jpl.nasa.gov/wms.cgi http://globe.digitalearth.gov/viz-bin/wmt.cgi http://132.156.10.87/cgi-bin/atlaswms_en http://152.61.128.152/servlet/com.esri.wms.Esrimap/world http://129.174.58.94:8080/wfsconnector/com.esri.wfs.Esrimap/va_2006 http://seamap.env.duke.edu/ogc/ http://unidata.scs.gmu.edu:8080/WebModuleWMS/wmsservlet http://129.174.58.94/ntad/request.aspx http://athena.pin.unifi.it:8080/galeon/WCS-v1.0 http://map.ns.ec.gc.ca/contourservice/map.aspx ebRIM: ebXML Registry Information Model

ESG Functionality: Discovering Provides an intuitive user interface; ESG also serves XML queries according to the OGC Catalog Interface (2.0). Before we do the demo, we should keep in mind that we don’t control the QoS of services provided by others: Server maybe offline, service url maybe changed after registration, service layer names may be changed after registration Search through ESG can 1) locate places, 2) discovery data services, 3) discovery web services, and 4) discovery other resources; Get a place name from the audience and search. Search “World” to find data/web services, build a TM image based jurisdiction application. Ecological, vegetation code: Canada Server Hourly Aviation weather reports: Air traffic Precipitation: DataFed Air Quality: Datafed on SOx, CO2 Map 05?

ESG Client The collaboration function can be sharing files, images, or Setup a discussing thread through JForm

Collaborations NASA Applied Science Program ESIP and its Earth Information Exchange GEOSS Applications Other Federal Partners When the phase II of ESG is accomplished, we will work with our federal and non-profit organizations, to support their purposes & objectives, and advance ESG/Geoscience Interoperability
