The Open Data Environment IASSIST 2007 Chuck Humphrey University of Alberta

Outline Themes emerging from IASSIST 2006 A cyberinfrastructure framework A model of an open data environment Tool development collaboration

IASSIST 2007 and open data Four themes from IASSIST 2006 Cyberinfrastructure Digital Repositories DDI 3.0 Data Life Cycle I will use these four themes from last year’s conference to set the context for describing some models of open data environments.

An infrastructural framework European Research Observatory for the Humanities and Social Sciences (EROHS) Bjørn Henrichsen Chair, ESFRI Social Science and Humanities Roadmap Working Group IASSIST - Ann Arbor - May 24 2006

Implementation strategies There will be a mix of strategies to implement large, complex cyberinfrastructure frameworks, such as the one articulated by the ESFRI Social Sciences and Humanities Roadmap Working Group. Among the mix of strategies will be national and international initiatives from research councils and agencies funding infrastructure development. Open data environments also have a role to play in these implementation strategies. ESFRI : The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures

Tool development collaboration How can we collaborate nationally and internationally in developing an open data environment? These open data environments depend also on tools to facilitate preservation and access. Build simple tools that perform single functions and that can be chained together Meet to discuss development needs Share in development
