Foreign Policy Detente: easing of Cold War tensions, Nixon visits China – 1st President S.A.L.T.: Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty- 5 year agreement to limit missiles, intercontinental ballistic or submarine launched missiles Ping Pong Diplomacy: Opening China, China’s ping pong team plays the US ping pong team

Foreign Policy Vietnamization: Gradual withdrawal of troops so South Vietnamese could take over the war- this included secret bombing of Cambodia (Kent State) OPEC and Gas shortage: control price per barrel of oil, Oil embargo to US because US sent aid to Israel.

Domestic Policy Environmental Protection Agency - EPA: Govt. took power to set and enforce pollution standards, environmental research, assist state and local govt. in pollution control. (Rachel Carson – Silent Spring Stagflation and Revenue Sharing: cost of Vietnam = rising unemployment and inflation, revenue sharing= state and local govt have more freedom to spend federal money.

Domestic Policy Watergate: Committee to reelect the President – (CREEP) tried to cover up a burglary attempt at Democratic National Headquarters at the Watergate hotel. Nixon tried to cover it up.

Domestic Policy Watergate: 2 Washington Post reporters Woodward and Bernstein, with the help of a secret source, code named Deep Throat, brought down the President. 30 years later it was revealed that Deep Throat was actually Mark Felt, 2nd Director of the FBI
