Break of day in the trenches

1. Who are the characters in this poem? An English soldier and a rat

2. What is a poppy? A little red flower growing on the battlefield.

3. Which drug is made from poppies? morphine.

4. Which word tells you the rat can go where ever it pleases? cosmopolitan

5. What is the soldier wondering about? What the rat is thinking when the rat sees the bombs and the war fought by men.

6. How do poppies get in the veins of men? It is injected as morphine. It is used when a soldier is wounded. It makes the pain go away.
