Lest We Forget

2. THE RED POPPY -ITS SIGNIFICANCE
The red poppy is a sign of remembering the people who died in the wars, they also use it because it is a sign of life.
There was a man named Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae he wrote a famous poem called ‘In Flanders Fields’ this was a poem inspired by when his friend died from war and he had to do a funeral service for him. He through out the poem but it was published in the English magazine named punch.

3. ‘LEST WE FORGET’
People say ‘lest we forget’ because it shows that we do remember the sacrifices our people made for us to live the life we do now. It is also saying that we will not forget them in many years to come and sometimes people do need a reminder to say these people died for us and just because it was long ago it doesn't mean it was any less significant.
Usually people say ‘lest we forget’ on ANZAC Day for the reasons above.

4. WREATHS
Wreaths are a ring of flowers people give to the deceased graves and loved ones. Certain flowers mean certain things like, rosemary symbolizes remembrance, laurels symbolize commemoration and the poppy is a symbol of ANZACS and the first world war. We lay wreaths to recognise the fallen soldiers of the world wars. The romans would wear laurels and wreaths around their heads as a crown to show victory which is a reason we lay them on soldiers graves.

5. ANZAC BISCUITS
ANZAC biscuits are a reasonably healthy biscuit created during world war one. Wives would sometimes send ANZAC biscuits over to their husbands at war because ANZAC biscuits don’t go off for weeks. Now days at the RSA ( the Returned Servicemens Association) on ANZAC day they will have whats called an ANZAC’s breakfast in which they will have tea or coffee with an original recipe ANZAC biscuit.
