1 Remembrance Day

2 Class Discussion With your table partner(s) discuss the following question: What are some reasons that Canadians all across the country celebrate Remembrance Day?

3 We talk about soldiers fighting for our freedoms (against people who have tried to take away our freedoms). What are some of our freedoms that people in other countries don’t have? Right to education Free (respectful) speech Right to practice religion Right to vote and not be told who is going to lead the country Freedom to be treated equally ** To name a few

4 On the 11th hour, of the 11th month (November) on the 11th day World War I ended. As a result we stop to remember all of those that have died in that war and all of the wars after, to protect our freedoms. Major John McCrae wrote a poem in 1915 called “In Flanders Fields”. Flanders Fields is a cemetery in Belgium where poppies grew. The poppies were bright red and reminded many people of all the blood that was shed during WWI.
