Disease Transmission Demo Goal: To understand how easily diseases are spread from person to person

Infectious Diseases Also called contagious Can be passed from one organism to another Examples: Cold Flu Herpes Measles AIDS

Non-Infectious Diseases Can NOT be passed from one organism to another Caused by: Genetics (Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis) Environment (skin cancer) Lifestyle (heart disease, diabetes, etc.)

Video clip (Ted-Ed) Record your response in paragraph form: What causes antibiotic resistance? You must use the following terms: Bacteria Antibiotics Mutations natural selection resistance

Example Antibiotics are used to fight bacterial infections. They are becoming less effective over time. If just one bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics or undergoes a mutation, then that bacterium will survive to reproduce. This is an example of natural selection because the bacteria that are most well adapted are the ones that will survive to reproduce.
