Long Term Program Overview Students must go out as Sophomores or Juniors <18 Students need not be from Rotary families 11 months... High School Study Program Depart from home July/August Rotary/Parents handle various expenses Language skills an advantage Student self confidence a must Country selection determined by Rotary A student is not an “Exchange Student” until they are on the airplane!

Short Term Program Overview Students accepted at age 15-18 – Graduated Seniors OK Students need not be from Rotary families one month... Cultural Study Program Depart from home in June or July Parents handle various expenses Language skills an advantage Student self confidence a must Country selection optional A student is not an “Exchange Student” until they are on the airplane!

Who Pays? Rotary Monthly stipend +/- US$100 Attendance at Rotary Required Events Family +/-$7,800 Lump sum fee to Rotary which includes: Round-trip coach airfare (sorry, no “mileage” tickets) Visa fees and transportation if necessary Blazer Rotary District Name Tag/Patch/Pin Basic “slide show” starter kit Health insurance Language course in Host Country if required Cost of equipping and training student for the exchange Optional travel within host country Clothing, school fees, spending money, overnights en-route $500 emergency fund deposited in trust with host Rotary club.

Rotary Responsibilities Select “Outbound” Students Provide Orientation Help with Completing Forms January Orientation – Country Selection/Anchorage Monthly Outbound Orientations Lunch/Dinner at Rotary Meetings Provide “Host” families Provide Rotary YEOs, Counselors & Staff Host club financial obligations Ensure student is enrolled in High School and maintaining passing grades Assist student with adapting to new environment (culture, school, family, language). Monthly Stipend Assisting Rebound Student with “Re-Entry” back home

Student/Family Responsibilities Have a sincere interest in the youth exchange program If selected, follow Rotary’s guidelines Ensure student attends all Rotary functions that prepare them for their exchange experience Student must understand and agree to not participate in the five D’s Must be financially able to support expenses involved in the exchange program Will host an Inbound student Will monitor Inbound student's health and seek immediate medical care if they become ill

Hosting a Student Term up to four months Provide food/lodging and school sack lunch. Assist with transportation to Rotary/School/other functions Treat them as one of your family... correct them when they are or do wrong Provide some “space” for the student Ensure student communicates with home Go over the first night & Second Day Questions Father/son... mother/daughter talks Secure student’s valuables Assist with school work and activities... monitor success in school Monitor student’s use of 5 D’s and Encourage the 5 Be’s Be alert/work with cultural shock, home sickness, language difficulties, making friends-fitting in, health concerns, religious interests, food, etc.. Assist student with travel arrangements Love them as your own... can develop into a life long relationship
