Section 3.1 Study Materials Directions Please have a piece of paper and pencil ready! As you click through the slides, pause to work out the Practice Problems on your own. Check your answer to each Practice Problem. If you get a problem wrong or if you want to hear the explanation, watch the video linked to the slide. At the end of the slide show, work out the answers to the Selected Textbook Exercises. When you have completed Sections 3.1 – 3.3, complete Mid-Chapter 3 Online Homework.

Section 3.1 Study Materials Fractions Fractions are used in mathematics for many purposes. Most commonly fractions express the number of equal parts out of a whole (or out of a part), a division problem, a remainder, or a ratio (a comparison of two numbers).

Section 3.1 Study Materials Fractions

Section 3.1 Study Materials Equivalent Fractions You can multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number and produce an equivalent fraction, and you can divide the numerator and denominator by the same number and produce an equivalent fraction.
